Droplets Transmission Mechanism in a Commercial Wide-Body Aircraft Cabin

چکیده
COVID-19 is a respiratory infectious disease that spreads readily between people, and an urgent issue of passengers’ exposure risk assessment in commercial aircraft has been raised because cabin as confined space may carry transmit the worldwide. In this study, droplets transmission process under different ventilation systems twin-aisle wide-body was studied using CFD simulations infection passengers assessed by improved Wells–Riley model. Numerical results found mechanism depending on type location source. Annular airflow could effectively enhance ability transmission, while direct airflow, represented displacement ventilation, significantly inhibit transmission. Accordingly, new system proposed based concept overall organized annular local area airflow. Compared with sidewall mixing system, presented study reduced 27%.

Transport of expiratory droplets in an aircraft cabin.
UNLABELLED The droplets exhaled by an index patient with infectious disease such as influenza or tuberculosis may be the carriers of contagious agents. Indoor environments such as the airliner cabins may be susceptible to infection from such airborne contagious agents. The present investigation computed the transport of the droplets exhaled by the index patient seated in the middle of a seven-r...
متن کاملMonitoring microbial populations on wide-body commercial passenger aircraft.
Although exposure to bacteria has been assessed in cabin air previously, minimal numbers of samples have been collected in-flight. The purpose of this research was to comprehensively characterize bacterial concentrations in the aircraft cabin. Twelve randomly selected flights were sampled on Boeing-767 aircraft, each with a flight duration between 4.5 and 6.5 h. N-6 impactors were used to colle...
متن کاملSARS Transmission and Commercial Aircraft
To the Editor: Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is an emerging transmissible disease first reported in Asia in February 2003. The disease is characterized by acute onset of fever with nonproductive cough, myalgia, shortness of breath, or difficulty breathing (1). Approximately 14% of case-patients require mechanical ventilation (1,2). The syndrome is caused by the previously unrecognize...
متن کاملPrediction of Spatial and Temporal Distribution of Expiratory Droplets in an Aircraft Cabin
The present study investigated the unsteady transport of droplets exhaled by an index passenger in an aircraft cabin using the CFD simulations. A section of twin aisle cabin with seven-rows and full occupancy was studied. It was found that the expiratory droplet cloud was initially dense and moved to specific zones. The droplet concentrations were higher in these zones. The droplet concentratio...
متن کاملExperimental studies of thermal environment and contaminant transport in a commercial aircraft cabin with gaspers on.
Gaspers installed in commercial airliner cabins are used to improve passengers' thermal comfort. To understand the impact of gasper airflow on the air quality in a cabin, this investigation measured the distributions of air velocity, air temperature, and gaseous contaminant concentration in five rows of the economy-class section of an MD-82 commercial aircraft. The gaseous contaminant was simul...
